What is The Real Cause of Fibromyalgia?

img_0084.jpgFibromyalgia is a condition that affects 4 million of Americans, most of them are women.  Although research has shed some light in the understanding of this condition, it is still unclear to many doctors and patients its real cause. This fact presents a major challenge in the management of this condition because like anything in life without knowing the cause of the problem the chances of finding the solution are greatly diminished.

Only half of patients find relief from traditional care and many times this is just temporary because the treatment consists of managing the symptom:  the pain. This is a failed attempt to treatment because it is not treating the cause, the real reason.

The real cause of fibromyalgia has not been found because fibromyalgia is usually a symptom that presents as a consequence of an underlying condition. Why a patient suffers from fibromyalgia is not necessarily the same reason other patient presents with the same pattern of pain. The factors that contribute to the development of this condition vary greatly from patient to patient.

Individuality is the real key in managing fibromyalgia. There is not a “cookie cutter” solution to every case of this syndrome. Your particular case of fibromyalgia needs to be carefully managed, and finding out the pattern of your condition is crucial in providing true relief.

Chronic fatigue is one of the most common symptoms in people diagnosed with fibromyalgia; the sad true is that many people that are diagnosed with fibromyalgia or chronic fatigue syndrome are misdiagnosed.

Fatigue, like widespread pain, can be symptoms of an underlying disorder. Fatigue is common on people with thyroid problems, infections, hypoglycemia, inflammatory bowel disease, anemia and a variety of other conditions that many times are not completely ruled out before a patient is diagnosed with fibromyalgia.

Many patients with fibromyalgia feel alone and undermined. Since the management of this condition is challenging, these patients have great difficulty finding a doctor that even “believes” in their pain or much less provides the appropriate treatment.

If you are suffering from fibromyalgia it is time to take control of your health. You have the right to find the right professional that will treat you with the respect and compassion you deserve.

It is time to regain your health and life. Find out the underlying cause of your pain and fatigue. True life is not about duration but about quality of life.

What you need to know about fibromyalgia:
Fibromyalgia is an exclusion diagnosis. That means that other common encounter illnesses that present with the same or similar symptoms need to be ruled out.

The problem is that the lab testing that is ordered in many cases appears normal or within range. Therefore, a condition or disease is ruled out. However, many times the development of a systemic illness is not considered when lab values are not ideal but still fall within “normal” ranges.

Fibromyalgia is a systemic condition, causes vary on an individual bases. Appropriate personalized management of the case is warranted as it can affect different parts of the body with no specific pattern. Symptoms can be misleading at times and a deeper investigation is crucial in finding the hidden cause.

How can fibromyalgia be an immune system condition?

Fibromyalgia can be the result of an overactive immune system. This is why fibromyalgia commonly presents after a patient has had an infection. Instead of the immune system being turned off after the body has rid itself of the infection the immune system is still active. This leads to the common symptoms that present with fibromyalgia like fatigue and achiness. In other cases, it occurs after the patient has experienced a physical trauma, such as a car accident. The body becomes inflamed when it suffers from trauma and in the case of fibromyalgia this leads to what mimics an inability to turn off inflammation

Fibromyalgia Treatment

There are different alternatives that patients have when they have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia. Conventional medical treatment involves prescription of medication; however, this treatment does not address the underlying cause of the condition. It helps some patients with pain; however, the side effects can range from headaches to weight gain. Different medications are tried out to address every single symptom. However, your condition might be getting worse. This medication is not curing your disease, it is just calming down or reducing your symptoms.

A few years ago fibromyalgia was considered a “trash can” diagnosis by many providers. Many patients experienced the rejection from providers with a mentality that this syndrome lived in “patient's heads.” This approach was founded by the fact that fibromyalgia does not have a definitive lab test and its diagnosis was made by ruling out other possible diseases. However, medical research and testing has advanced and actual lab values correlate with the signs and symptoms present on fibromyalgia patients. These labs are not commonly run in a medical practice due to its price and impracticality.

Recently the pharmacological industry has come up with medication that targets this chronic illness, like Cymbalta, and now more attention has been paid to the diagnosis.

What are the alternative care options for a patient?

Taking medication for the condition will not do anything for the underlying cause. When the body is responding in such cyclic patterns, it is important to intervene so a healing process can occur.

Introduction to healing starts by addressing the needs of the body. If you are not fueling your body with the right nutrients, it is impossible for your body to function at its potential. Additional supplementation of nutrients is sometimes required to empower your nervous and immune system and begin the process of proper healing

Daniel Soto Client Testimonial
5/5 stars
I came to North Dallas Chiropractic because I had stiffness in my back. It started about 15 years ago and was getting worse. This made my job at Home Depot very difficult to do. Dr. Soto did an exam and took some X-rays. He said I had DISH, which is a fusion of some ligaments in my spine. He said we could increase my range of motion through Chiropractic. I was fairly sore after the first 2 adjustments and therapy, but hadn\'t felt that loose in 30 years.
